Mr. Johnston now concentrates his practice in insurance coverage matters and in mediation and arbitration. His experience includes more than 40 years of civil litigation of all types, representing both plaintiffs and defendants.

Professional Activities- Mr. Johnston is former president (1988-1989) of the South Carolina Bar, and the Senior Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar (2001-2002). He is an Advocate of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1991.
- He served on the South Carolina Supreme Court Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competence from 1983-1987, which he chaired 1984-1987. He is Chairman Emeritus of Lander University, Greenwood, S.C., having served for many years on its governing board and as chairman of that board 1988-1994. He served on the Board of Directors of the Attorneys Liability Protection Society, 1994-2002.
Accolades- Mr Johnston received his alma mater’s Law School Alumni Association Compleat Lawyer Award in 1997. This honor is bestowed annually upon those South Carolina lawyers who represent the highest standard of professionalism, competence and integrity as selected by the chief judges of the State's appellate courts and a committee selected by the University of South Carolina School of Law. He also received the Order of the Palmetto award from the Governor of South Carolina in 1986 and the Tommy Thomason Award from the Greenville County Bar Association in 1996.
- Mr. Johnston was ranked first in his law school class and served as Chief Justice of the Order of the Wig and Robe. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
