Joseph E. Major

Mr. Major has handled a variety of matters in his 40 years of practice and now primarily handles general comprehensive liability matters for several insurance carriers. He is now involved in a number of medical malpractice cases as well as products liability cases. In addition, he is involved in the defense of several large excess and class action suits. Additional specialties involve transportation and pharmaceutical cases as well as insurance coverage matters. He is licensed to practice in United States District Courts, South Carolina and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Major was a member of Wig & Robe, an honorary scholastic order at the Law School.

Upon graduation, Mr. Major served as a law clerk to the Honorable George Bell Timmerman, United Stated District Judge (1962). He then served as an Assistant Legislative Assistant with the Honorable Strom Thurmond, U.S. Senate (1963). Mr. Major joined the Leatherwood firm in 1963.

Mr. Major is married to Sarah H. (Sally) Major from Tampa, Florida and has three children.
