William B. Swent

Shareholder

William’s practice focus is commercial real estate transactions. He represents both borrowers and lenders and has significant experience in residential subdivision development. Mr. Swent has particular experience in drafting, modifying and interpreting restrictive covenants for residential, commercial and mixed use subdivisions, master communities and condominiums. William also handles administrative matters for commercial and residential developers, such as zoning and interaction with municipal authorities. Mr. Swent has a litigation background and remains active in the courts through representation of clients with advanced real property disputes, such as leasehold actions, partitions, trespass, nuisance, evictions and quiet title.

Professional Activities

  • Mr. Swent is currently president of the local Naval Academy Alumni Association, Greenville Chapter and a committee member for the Greenville Country Club.

Accolades

  • Mr. Swent demonstrated academic excellence early as valedictorian of his high school class; moving on to the Naval Academy, he obtained an engineering undergraduate degree, finishing “With Merit.” Prior to attending law school, Mr. Swent served a five-year term in the United States Navy as a submarine officer. He also spent a year as a commercial electrician to bridge the gap between law school and the Navy. Mr. Swent served as Editor-in-Chief of the South Carolina Law Review, and he also distinguished himself in law school as a member of the Order of the Coif, Order of the Wig and Robe, and a member of the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court.
